Significance
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime for those able. The first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah are among the most virtuous of the year, and the Day of Arafah (9th) is its spiritual peak.
How it is observed
Pilgrims perform Tawaf, stand at Arafah, and complete the rites over several days. Those not on Hajj are encouraged to fast the first nine days, especially the Day of Arafah.
