Our mission

ChandKiTarikh.in exists to do one thing well: give every Muslim in India today’s correct Islamic (Hijri) date in a single glance — no app to download, no confusion.

Across India, lakhs of people ask the same question daily — aaj chand ki kitni tarikh hai? Roza, namaz, Shab-e-Barat, Ramadan and Eid all depend on the chand ki tarikh. Yet most calendars show the Saudi Arabian date, which is usually a day ahead of India. We built this site to fix exactly that: a fast, free, India-specific Hijri date that updates every day.

How we calculate the date (our method)

Every date on this site comes from a transparent method: it is computed in Indian Standard Time, adjusted for Indian moon sighting, and cross-checked around the end of each Islamic month.

Indian Standard Time (IST). The date is always calculated for India’s time zone, wherever in the world you open the site from.
India moon-sighting basis. We follow the civil (tabular) Islamic calendar as it applies to India, and cross-check it against the Umm al-Qura calendar with a one-day adjustment — because the new crescent is usually sighted in India about one evening later than in the Gulf.
Month-end verification. When an Islamic month can end at 29 days, our system re-checks the date after Maghrib so the start of the new month stays in line with what the Hilal committees announce.

Know our limits. For major occasions — Ramadan, Eid and Muharram — the final decision always rests with your local Hilal committee. If a committee’s announcement ever differs from our date, follow the committee.

Regional Ruet-e-Hilal committees we follow

India has no single national moon-sighting authority. Each region follows its own respected Ruet-e-Hilal (crescent-sighting) committee, and we cross-check our date against their announcements — because for worship, their word is final.

These are the main committees whose moon-sighting decisions we track across India:

Bihar, Odisha & Jharkhand: Imarat-e-Shariah (Phulwari Sharif, Patna) — established 1921.
Mumbai & Maharashtra: Raza Academy (Sunni Ruyate Hilaal Committee).
Hyderabad & the Deccan: the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Sadar Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Deccan (Moazzam Jahi Market, Hyderabad).
Kerala: Samastha Kerala Jam-iyyathul Ulama.
Delhi & North India: the Ruet-e-Hilal committees of Fatehpuri Masjid and Shahi Jama Masjid, Delhi.

On the 29th of each Islamic month, these committees gather crescent-sighting testimony after Maghrib and announce the new month. If a committee's announcement ever differs from our calculated date, follow your local committee — and we keep watching these sources too.

Why you can trust the date

Our date engine is deterministic and verified against known reference points (for example, 1 Safar 1448 AH corresponds to 17 July 2026 in India), and it is checked by an automated test suite before every release. The date shown on the page is written into the HTML at build time and refreshed daily, so search engines and returning visitors always see the current day — not a stale cache.

Who runs this site

Chand Ki Tarikh is an independent Indian project built and maintained by a small team that cares about getting the Islamic date right for our community. We are not a government body or an official moon-sighting authority; we are a free reference tool that reflects the mainstream Indian sighting convention. Questions about religious rulings should go to a qualified scholar or your local committee.

Corrections policy

If you ever spot a mistake in our date or content, please tell us through the contact page. We review every reported error and fix it as quickly as possible — giving you the correct date is the entire point of this site.
