Sehri aur Iftar kya hai?
Sehri woh pre-dawn meal hai jo aap Fajr se pehle khate hain, aur Iftar woh moment hai jab aap sunset (Maghrib) par apna roza kholte hain.
During Ramadan you eat before first light and then fast the whole day, no food or water, until the sun goes down. The sehri time ends at subah-sadiq (true dawn), which is the same moment as Fajr. From that minute the roza begins.
Iftar comes at the other end of the day. The second the sun sets and Maghrib enters, the fast is over and you can eat. That is why every sehri iftar time table shows you two numbers for each day: the Sehri end (Fajr) and the Iftar (Maghrib). The tool above gives you both for your own city, plus a live countdown so you always know how long is left.
If you also want the full month laid out day by day, see our Ramadan calendar, and for the five daily prayers use the namaz time table.
Sehri-Iftar time kaise nikalte hain?
Sehri and Iftar depend on the sun's position over your city, so the sehri time and iftar time shift a little every single day.
Fajr begins at true dawn, when the first light appears on the horizon before sunrise. Maghrib begins the moment the sun fully sets. Both of these are astronomical events tied to your exact location, so the tool uses your city (ya aapki geolocation) to calculate them.
This is also the reason the numbers are never the same across India. A city in the east sees dawn and sunset earlier than a city in the west. So Kolkata ka iftar time Mumbai se pehle aata hai, and the gap can be 30-40 minutes or more between far cities.
- Fajr time decides when your Sehri closes.
- Maghrib time decides when your Iftar opens.
- Dono din-ba-din thoda badalte rehte hain across the month.
Because the calculation is based on the sun, keeping a few minutes of precaution is always wise.
Ehtiyat: thodi si precaution zaroori hai
Sehri thoda pehle band karein aur Iftar theek Maghrib par karein, and always treat your local masjid ka siren ya announcement as the final word.
Calculated times are very accurate, but they are still a calculation. To be safe, stop eating and drinking a few minutes before the listed Fajr time rather than right on the second. Yeh chhoti si ehtiyat aapke roze ko mehfooz rakhti hai.
For Iftar it works the other way. Do not break early. Wait for the exact Maghrib time and then open your fast. Jaldi mat karein.
- Sehri: listed Fajr time se 2-3 minute pehle rukna behtar hai.
- Iftar: exactly Maghrib par kholein, ek minute pehle nahi.
- Agar aapki masjid ka siren baje, that is your final signal, even if a printed ramadan time table shows a slightly different minute.
Local ulema and your nearest masjid follow the same city timings, so matching them keeps everyone in your area on one roza time.
Sehri aur Iftar ke practical tips
Light, simple food at Sehri and Iftar keeps your energy steady through the day, so don't skip suhoor and don't overeat at iftar.
A few habits that make fasting easier:
- Iftar par khajoor aur paani se shuruaat karein. Dates and water are the sunnah way to open a fast and gently wake up your stomach before a full meal.
- Sehri kabhi miss na karein. Even a small suhoor with slow-digesting food keeps you going. Skipping it makes the day much harder.
- Fried aur bohot meetha khana kam rakhein at iftar; it spikes and then crashes your energy.
- Sehri se Iftar ke beech mein enough paani piyein so you stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.
- Bade portions ke bajaye halka aur balanced khana behtar hai.
