Shab-e-Meraj Countdown
The night of the Prophet’s ﷺ ascension.
Shab-e-Meraj is in 170 days — Wednesday, 6 January 2027.
What is Shab-e-Meraj?
Shab-e-Meraj (Laylat al-Isra wal-Miraj) is observed on the night of 27 Rajab, marking the Prophet’s ﷺ miraculous night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and his ascension through the heavens.
When is Shab-e-Meraj in 2027?
In India, Shab-e-Meraj falls on Wednesday, 6 January 2027 (in 170 days), based on the expected moon sighting.
This date is calculated for India and may shift by a day depending on the actual crescent sighting — final confirmation comes from your local Hilal committee after Maghrib. Because India follows local sighting, the date can differ from Saudi Arabia by about a day.
Significance
It was during this journey that the five daily prayers (namaz) were made obligatory — one of the most important gifts in Islam. It is widely observed across India, especially in the subcontinental tradition.
How it is observed
Many spend the night in voluntary prayer and dua, and recount the story of the Miraj. Some keep a voluntary fast the next day.
